About the role#
The Polymer Products operations team at S&C Electric Company manufactures medium voltage epoxy insulation products. As a Chemical Engineer Co-Op, you will support the process engineering team at our Chicago headquarters. You will report to the Assistant Manager of Process Engineering and work on-site to help achieve production yield goals, resolve quality concerns, and contribute to capital projects.
What you'll do#
- Perform routine material testing on epoxy polymer formulations, including density, viscosity, LOI, DSC, and block molds.
- Test raw materials used to formulate epoxy polymers.
- Collect and analyze process data using statistical tools.
- Conduct experiments and write clear, concise engineering test reports.
- Assist with continuous improvement and 5S initiatives.
- Create instruction bulletins or process specification procedures for manufacturing tooling and processes.
- Run software simulations for injection molding processes and mold designs.
- Support the process engineering team with capital projects and new product development.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited degree program for Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related major.
- Status as a student returning to school full-time after the work session.
- Ability to work full-time, with a 6-month term preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, Project, and Access.
- Strong organizational, documentation, and presentation skills.
- Ability to read drawings and perform basic bookkeeping.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to think analytically and work independently in a production environment.
Location & details#
- This position is located on-site at S&C in Rogers Park, Chicago, IL.
- The role is full-time for the Fall 2026 term.
- Compensation is $22 - $30 per hour based on experience.
