About the role#
This is a full-time, paid co-op opportunity for the Winter 2027 term. You will work on-site at our Mississauga office, collaborating with experienced data scientists and energy-market experts. This role focuses on building forecasting models that inform real-world decisions regarding facility load, market demand, and electricity pricing.
What you'll do#
- Design, build, and validate time-series forecasting models.
- Explore and tune statistical, machine learning, and deep learning modeling approaches.
- Contribute to machine learning pipelines on the Databricks platform using PySpark, MLflow, and Delta Lake.
- Build dashboards and automated reports to replace manual Excel workflows.
- Incorporate domain knowledge of market structures and grid dynamics into model features.
- Communicate model performance, assumptions, and limitations to stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a registered co-op program pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or Engineering.
- Working knowledge of Python, SQL, Excel, and core libraries like pandas, scikit-learn, and numpy.
- A foundational understanding of statistical or machine learning modeling, ideally with time-series methods.
- Strong analytical thinking and clear communication skills.
- A collaborative, self-motivated mindset with a willingness to ask questions and iterate on feedback.
- Bonus points for experience with the electricity sector, weather data integration, Databricks, or Git/GitHub.
