About the role#
As a Data Operations Engineer AI Co-op Student, you will work on operational workflows including facility data aggregation, production system integration, and client onboarding. You will identify opportunities to streamline processes and build tools that improve efficiency, data quality, and team productivity. This role requires you to map real operating processes, build prototypes and automations, document your work, and communicate trade-offs to various stakeholders.
What you'll do#
- Analyze and map existing workflows, including production triage and exception handling.
- Identify manual, repetitive, or rules-driven steps suitable for automation or AI-assisted routing.
- Build automation workflows using Azure native tools, scripting, and approved AI tools.
- Develop solutions to extract information from structured and unstructured sources, automate ticket creation, and generate actionable summaries.
- Implement agentic workflow patterns for multi-step operational tasks.
- Design internal AI assistants and knowledge-search experiences to make documentation easier to access.
- Develop tools to monitor interval data and support the creation of alerts, exception reports, and dashboard views.
- Work from a prioritized backlog of improvement opportunities and prepare demos, documentation, and recommendations.
- Participate in team huddles, share progress, and communicate risks or blockers.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Analytics, Information Systems, AI, Software Engineering, or a related program.
- Registration in a recognized co-op program.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Basic scripting or programming experience in Python, SQL, JavaScript, or equivalent.
- Comfort working with data in Excel, databases, APIs, reports, or operational systems.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- A demonstrated ownership mindset.
- Exposure to Power Automate, Power BI, Microsoft 365 automation, or similar platforms.
- Exposure to AI/ML concepts, generative AI, agentic AI, prompt engineering, or RAG patterns.
- Interest in energy systems, utilities, data operations, metering, demand response, or market operations.
- Experience mapping workflows, writing SOPs, or building dashboards.
Location & details#
- Term: Winter 2027 (January 2027 - April 2027).
- Compensation: $25.00 - $29.00 per hour.
- Schedule: 40-hour work week.
- Location: Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
- Work Modality: On-site (5 days per week).
