About the role#
The Information Assurance Intern will join our Security team for the Summer of 2027. You will gain hands-on experience supporting cybersecurity compliance, vulnerability management, and continuous monitoring. You will work alongside ISSMs, ISSOs, and Industrial Security professionals to support government programs and develop practical skills in cybersecurity risk management.
What you'll do#
- Support Information Assurance and Continuous Monitoring (ConMon) activities, including log reviews, vulnerability scans, and documentation updates.
- Assist with NIST SP 800-171 and Risk Management Framework (RMF) compliance, including evidence collection and tracking.
- Support Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M) management by reviewing findings and tracking remediation.
- Prepare documentation and evidence for DAAPM, JSIG, and CMMC audit readiness.
- Maintain compliance trackers, workflows, and knowledge bases using JIRA and Confluence.
- Shadow security personnel to learn about system authorization, accreditation, and the security lifecycle.
- Collaborate with technical teams to improve compliance processes and identify risk management opportunities.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Familiarity with NIST SP 800-171, RMF, JSIG, DAAPM, or CMMC.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance.
- Prior experience or coursework in cybersecurity, risk management, or compliance is preferred.
- Exposure to vulnerability scanning tools such as Nessus, OpenVAS, or Qualys.
- Experience with JIRA or Confluence is a plus.
- Security+ or other entry-level certifications are valued.
