About the role#
POLITICO is hiring a reporting intern for Summer 2027 in New York. This is a full-time, paid position for college students and recent graduates. You will cover politics and policy in New York City, including the City Council and the office of Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
What you'll do#
- Pitch, report, and write stories for both a local New York audience and our national readership.
- Cover spot news as assigned by editors.
- Contribute to the New York Playbook team by writing and producing the daily newsletter.
- Handle all aspects of content production, including research, writing, editing, and aggregating.
- Report from the field as needed.
- Participate in newsroom sessions, biweekly intern trainings, and receive direct feedback on your work.
What you'll need#
- Demonstrated interest in New York politics and policy.
- Strong reporting and writing skills.
- Excellent news judgment and an entrepreneurial mindset.
- Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines.
- Previous experience in a newsroom, with at least one professional media internship or job preferred.
- Academic background in Journalism, Communications, Political Science, History, or English.
Location & details#
- Location: New York, NY.
- Term: June through August 2027.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Modality: Hybrid.
- Compensation: $23 per hour.
