    About the role#

    POET is seeking a Legal Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. You will assist with regulatory policy advocacy and contribute to business and legal strategy regarding federal and state-level policy affecting the biofuels industry.

    What you'll do#

    • Research, track, and interpret statutes, rules, and regulations, including those related to climate programs.
    • Provide legal analysis on pending legislation, administrative rules, and other regulatory items.
    • Engage with and direct affiliated trade associations regarding strategic regulatory advocacy and litigation campaigns.
    • Advise business teams on regulatory compliance issues, such as energy, environmental, transportation, product safety, and international trade.
    • Develop and deliver legal and compliance training to the organization.
    • Work with executives to ensure adherence to corporate policies.

    What you'll need#

    • Enrollment as a full-time student in a Juris Doctorate law program.
    • Completion of the first year of law school.
    • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
    • Ability to adapt to change.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and a willingness to learn new programs.

    • Location: Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Term: Summer 2027.
    • Requirements: Some travel, including overnights, may be required. You may occasionally need to lift up to 50 pounds.
