About the role#
POET is seeking a Legal Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. You will assist with regulatory policy advocacy and contribute to business and legal strategy regarding federal and state-level policy affecting the biofuels industry.
What you'll do#
- Research, track, and interpret statutes, rules, and regulations, including those related to climate programs.
- Provide legal analysis on pending legislation, administrative rules, and other regulatory items.
- Engage with and direct affiliated trade associations regarding strategic regulatory advocacy and litigation campaigns.
- Advise business teams on regulatory compliance issues, such as energy, environmental, transportation, product safety, and international trade.
- Develop and deliver legal and compliance training to the organization.
- Work with executives to ensure adherence to corporate policies.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a full-time student in a Juris Doctorate law program.
- Completion of the first year of law school.
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to change.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and a willingness to learn new programs.

- Requirements: Some travel, including overnights, may be required. You may occasionally need to lift up to 50 pounds.
