About the role#
The Chief Investment Office (CIO) at PNC manages approximately $150 billion in investment securities and $80 billion in interest rate derivatives. As a graduate intern, you will work directly with senior portfolio managers and quantitative professionals. This role offers exposure to portfolio construction, investment analytics, and the strategic management of bank assets and liabilities. You will gain hands-on experience in fixed-income investing and financial risk management through project-based work.
What you'll do#
- Analyze portfolio and balance sheet risk, return, and performance metrics to support management decisions.
- Conduct relative value analysis across mortgage-backed securities, U.S. Treasuries, and interest rate derivatives.
- Evaluate drivers of portfolio performance and assess how market conditions affect earnings.
- Perform stress testing, scenario analysis, and portfolio projections.
- Design, enhance, and maintain Python-based analytical tools.
- Improve data visualization, reporting, and investment analytics capabilities.
- Support automation initiatives to increase process efficiency.
- Partner with teams across Finance, Balance Sheet Management, Risk Management, and Economics.
- Contribute to earnings forecasting, portfolio monitoring, and financial reporting.
- Present analytical findings and recommendations to portfolio managers and senior stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a graduate degree in a quantitative discipline such as Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or Operations Management.
- Programming experience in Python, R, or similar analytical languages.
- Strong quantitative and statistical problem-solving abilities.
- Coursework in fixed income, investments, financial mathematics, or related subjects.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Intellectual curiosity and attention to detail.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative investment environment.
- Familiarity with fixed income markets, portfolio analytics, banking, or financial risk management is preferred.
