About the role#
As a State and Local Tax (SALT) Intern at Plante Moran, you will work alongside our professional staff to provide tax consulting and compliance services. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience in a professional accounting environment. You will be treated as a member of the team, contributing to real client projects and business solutions.
What you'll do#
- Provide tax consulting services for income, franchise, sales and use, gross receipts, and personal property taxes.
- Prepare state and local income and franchise tax returns.
- Research complex tax issues and present your findings through technical memorandums or verbal communication.
- Write internal and external tax alerts regarding current developments and emerging planning techniques.
- Deepen your technical knowledge of state, local, and federal tax regulations.
- Participate in training programs to enhance your professional skills.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in accounting, or a Master's degree in accounting or tax.
- Completion of the first two entry-level accounting courses and current enrollment in the first intermediate level accounting course.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Pursuit of an LLM, JD, or CPA license.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and analytical skills.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time, hybrid internship.
- Positions are available in Chicago and Schaumburg (IL); Traverse City, Southfield, Macomb, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Flint, East Lansing, Detroit, Auburn Hills, and Ann Arbor (MI); Toledo, Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati (OH); and Fort Collins and Denver (CO).

- This position may require local, national, or international travel.
