About the role#
As a State and Local Tax (SALT) Intern, you will work alongside our staff to support the financial health of our clients. This role focuses on providing tax consulting services and developing professional skills through hands-on experience. You will be treated as an entry-level staff member, contributing directly to client projects and technical research.
What you'll do#
- Provide tax consulting services regarding income, franchise, sales and use, gross receipts, and personal property taxes.
- Prepare state and local income and franchise tax returns.
- Research complex tax issues and document findings through technical memorandums or verbal communication.
- Write internal and external tax alerts regarding current developments and planning techniques.
- Build professional relationships with staff at all levels and our client base.
- Participate in training programs to expand your knowledge of federal and state tax regulations.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in accounting, or a Master's degree in accounting or tax.
- Must be pursuing a LLM, JD, or CPA license.
- Completion of two entry-level accounting courses and current enrollment in at least one intermediate-level accounting course.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work as a detail-oriented leader.

- Locations: This position is available in Ann Arbor, Auburn Hills, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Denver Tech Center, Detroit, East Lansing, Flint, Fort Collins, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Macomb, Schaumburg, Southfield, Toledo, Traverse City, and Chicago.
