As a State and Local Tax (SALT) Intern, you will work alongside our professional staff to provide tax consulting services and support our clients' financial health. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience, allowing you to move beyond basic tasks and contribute to meaningful business solutions. You will gain exposure to income, franchise, sales and use, gross receipts, and personal property taxes, as well as federal tax concepts.
What you'll do#
- Provide tax consulting services specific to state and local taxes.
- Prepare state and local income and franchise tax returns.
- Research complex tax issues and provide conclusions through technical memoranda or verbal communication.
- Write internal and external tax alerts regarding current tax developments and emerging planning techniques.
- Develop professional interactions with staff at all levels and our client base.
- Participate in training programs to enhance your technical tax knowledge.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in accounting, or a Master's degree in accounting or tax.
- Must be pursuing an LLM, JD, or CPA license.
- Completion of the first two entry-level accounting courses and current enrollment in at least the first intermediate-level accounting course.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with a detail-oriented approach.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

- Locations: Chicago and Schaumburg (IL); Traverse City, Southfield, Macomb, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Flint, East Lansing, Detroit, Auburn Hills, and Ann Arbor (MI); Toledo, Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati (OH); Fort Collins and Denver Tech Center (CO).
