About the role#
Okanagan College is hiring a Peer Mentor to work within the Indigenous Access Services (IAS) department. This role supports the campus community by acting as a guide and resource for students. You will work directly under the supervision of the IAS Coordinator and the Indigenous Transition Planner to foster a welcoming environment in the Indigenous Centre.
What you'll do#
- Participate in training sessions, regular meetings, and check-ins with IAS staff.
- Act as a point of contact for visitors and peers to share information about Indigenous Access Services.
- Support students by helping them navigate the college environment.
- Encourage peers to participate in social events and campus activities.
- Assist with the planning and execution of IAS and campus-wide events.
- Maintain the Indigenous Centre by keeping the space organized and tidy.
- Complete and submit required student help forms to your supervisor.
What you'll need#
- Current registration in a post-secondary program at Okanagan College with at least one year of prior post-secondary experience.
- A basic understanding of Aboriginal people and culture, or a strong desire to increase your awareness.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools like Word and Excel, as well as general internet usage.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- A self-motivated and prompt approach to your work.
- A cheerful attitude and the ability to serve as a positive role model for other students.
- Prior work experience is considered an asset.

- This position is located on-site in Vernon, British Columbia.
- The term runs from September 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026.
