    About the role#

    The Student Development Officer works within the Engineering Career Centre to support students in their transition from academic life to professional careers. This role focuses on the implementation and facilitation of preparatory programming for PEY Co-op students, helping them build the competencies needed for success in recruitment and the workplace.

    What you'll do#

    • Advise students on job search tactics, industry research, and networking strategies.
    • Coach students on work search skills, interview performance, and setting career goals.
    • Facilitate educational workshops and seminars for various audience sizes.
    • Analyze statistical data to evaluate the performance of department programs and partnerships.
    • Liaise with students and faculty to coordinate program activities.
    • Monitor labour market trends and educational shifts to inform career development approaches.
    • Provide guidance on career matters by outlining options and potential consequences.

    What you'll need#

    • A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of experience.
    • At least three years of recent experience in student career advising and programming.
    • Experience creating employment-readiness programming for experiential learning.
    • Proficiency in teaching technology, social media, and online career tools.
    • Ability to facilitate workshops and presentations for large and small groups.
    • Experience coaching individuals on resumes and interview techniques.
    • Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Outlook, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Excel.
    • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines with high accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Commitment to equity, diversity, and a respectful working environment.
    • Assets include experience in a university setting or knowledge of engineering job markets.
