About the role#
Northwood is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our team for the Summer 2027 term. You will work on the design of structures, systems, and tooling for our ground station antennas. This role provides hands-on experience in developing hardware that is deployed globally. You will work alongside RF, electrical, and manufacturing teams under the guidance of senior engineers.
What you'll do#
- Design components for product lines, structures, mechanisms, environmental systems, and ground support equipment.
- Create tooling for fabrication and assembly processes, such as test fixtures and weldments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support system requirements and hardware integration.
- Participate in design reviews to provide input and incorporate feedback.
- Ensure designs comply with industry standards, regulations, and best practices in mechanical, thermal, and environmental design.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of mechanical design principles, including thermal management, materials selection, and structural analysis.
- Familiarity with CAD software for 3D modeling and drafting.
- Strong interest in manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability.
