About the role#
This internship offers hands-on experience at a surface coal mine. You will work alongside experienced professionals to support the maintenance and operation of heavy equipment and facilities. The program is designed for students currently pursuing an associate or technical degree who have completed part of their coursework and intend to finish their degree after the internship. This is a paid, full-time position.
What you'll do#
- Assist with troubleshooting, routine maintenance, and repairs for mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance on draglines, coal shovels, and site facilities.
- Read blueprints to assemble and fabricate parts.
- Operate support equipment including boom trucks, welding trucks, and forklifts.
- Ensure all work complies with MSHA laws, company safety procedures, and environmental regulations.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited welding or mechanical maintenance program with good academic standing.
- Completion of a portion of your degree with the intent to graduate.
- A valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record check and a Job Function Test.
- Ability to work rotating shifts and outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
- Willingness to wear required personal protective equipment including steel-toed shoes.
