About the role#
This 15-month co-op program offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience at a surface lignite coal mine. You will work alongside experienced professionals to maintain electrical systems in both shop and field environments. The program runs from May 2027 through August 2028 and is intended for students currently pursuing an associate or technical degree who will complete their studies after this co-op.
What you'll do#
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical equipment, wiring, switchgear, and mine-specific devices.
- Work with various voltage electrical systems, trail cables, and electrical boxes.
- Assist with MSHA electrical inspections on mining equipment.
- Operate support equipment as needed.
- Ensure all work complies with MSHA regulations, company safety procedures, and environmental standards.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited electrical program with good academic standing.
- A valid driver license.
- Working knowledge of AC and DC circuits and electrical controls.
- Ability to interpret electrical circuit schematics.
- Capacity to work in all weather conditions and navigate environments with dust, noise, vibration, and uneven terrain.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment including hard hats, safety glasses, and safety footwear.
