About the role#
The News Reporting Intern will gain hands-on experience in a professional newsroom environment. This 10-week program runs from September 14, 2026, through November 20, 2026. Interns work 24 hours per week and participate in masterclasses to support professional growth. This role is open to current juniors and seniors, graduate students, and recent graduates who completed their degree within the past year.
What you'll do#
- Cover breaking news stories across beats including government, crime, and courts.
- Spend time on-site at City Hall, police bureaus, and courthouses to gather information.
- Shadow experienced reporters to learn the news-gathering process.
- Research, verify, and fact-check information for ongoing stories and investigations.
- Write and contribute to breaking news stories under the guidance of editors.
- Develop story ideas and stay informed on current events and trending topics.
What you'll need#
- Keen interest in hard news and a passion for New York City.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
- Proactive attitude and a willingness to learn from seasoned journalists.
- Preferred majors include Journalism, Communications, Political Science, or English.
- Bilingual skills in Spanish or access to a personal vehicle are considered a plus.

- This position is based in New York, New York, at 1211 Ave of the Americas.
- The role requires on-site, in-office attendance.
- This is a paid internship at a rate of $20 per hour.
