About the role#
Marathon Petroleum is seeking Process Technology Operator Interns to gain hands-on experience in a refinery environment. This role provides practical exposure to refinery operations while you develop the technical and interpersonal skills necessary for a career as a Refinery Operator. You will work alongside experienced Operators and apply your classroom knowledge in a real-world setting.
What you'll do#
- Monitor, regulate, troubleshoot, and support the operation of refinery process equipment and systems.
- Learn the responsibilities associated with both outside field operations and process control functions.
- Gather operational data, analyze results, and assist with identifying appropriate operational adjustments.
- Assist with refinery unit startups, shutdowns, and other operational activities.
- Build an understanding of refinery processes used to convert crude oil and other feedstocks into petroleum products.
- Follow all refinery safety, environmental, and operational procedures.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Current enrollment as a third- or fourth-semester student in a two-year Process Technology program leading to an Associate of Applied Science degree, or graduation from such a program within the past year.
- Good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and no academic probation.
- Ability to submit official college transcripts.
- At least 18 years of age and a valid driver’s license.
- Authorization to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
- Commitment to safety and the ability to work effectively as part of a team in a safety-sensitive environment.
- Successful completion of pre-employment assessments, background checks, medical evaluations, and drug and alcohol screenings.
- Physical ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather, climb structures exceeding 75 feet, work in confined spaces, and lift up to 50 pounds.
Location & details#
- Location: Texas City, Texas.
- Schedule: Refineries operate 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. You should be available to work day and night shifts and may transition to a rotating 12-hour shift schedule, including weekends and holidays.
- Compensation: The hourly pay for this internship is $31.89.
