About the role#
This is a research internship within the Advanced Robotics team at Magna. You will join the Corporate Engineering and R&D department to help develop human-like capabilities for humanoid robots. Your work focuses on industrial automation tasks, where you will connect perception, planning, and control systems to help robots act safely in changing environments.
What you'll do#
- Understand humanoid robot behavior and system constraints.
- Build safe navigation for dynamic spaces.
- Develop perception systems for object detection, scene state, and localization.
- Implement manipulation tasks for grasping and placement.
- Design high-level task planning and failure recovery protocols.
- Validate robot capabilities in simulation before physical deployment.
- Integrate individual modules into an end-to-end autonomy stack.
- Apply Physical AI methods to improve real-world robot behavior.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Master of Science program focused on Robotics.
- Strong programming skills in Python, ROS 2, and C++.
- Experience with robotics simulation tools, specifically Isaac Sim.
- A solid understanding of robotics fundamentals, AI, machine learning, and reinforcement learning.
- Hands-on experience with UR arms, bimanual manipulation, or Physical AI systems.
- Prior experience with humanoid robots is preferred.
- A curious mindset and the ability to work well in a small, collaborative team.
