About the role#
As a Student Nurse Patient Care Technician (PCT) in the Heart and Vascular Unit, you will work with the health care team to provide direct patient care. This role involves performing basic nursing tasks and supporting the unit to ensure patients receive consistent care throughout their stay.
What you'll do#
- Provide direct care, including personal hygiene and comfort measures.
- Assist with patient admissions by taking vital signs, weights, and orienting patients to their rooms.
- Help with patient discharges by gathering belongings and assisting with transport.
- Collect data such as intake and output, vital signs, and specimens.
- Assist patients with mobilization and positioning.
- Report changes in patient conditions or complaints to the assigned nurse.
- Transport patients and medications according to safety policies.
- Maintain unit supply levels and process medical staff orders.
- Help orient new staff members when requested.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited registered nursing program.
- Successful completion of your first year of clinical nursing studies.
- At least one completed clinical semester.
- A current CNA certification through the Maryland Board of Nursing.
- American Heart Association BLS for HealthCare Providers.
