About the role#
As a Student Nurse Patient Care Technician (PCT) on the General Surgical Unit, you will work as part of a team to provide direct care to patients. You will support the nursing staff by performing basic care tasks and helping patients with their daily needs. This role is designed for nursing students who want to gain clinical experience in a hospital setting.
What you'll do#
- Provide direct patient care, focusing on hygiene, comfort, and safety.
- Record patient vitals, intake and output, and collect specimens.
- Assist patients with mobilization and positioning.
- Help with patient admissions and manage discharge tasks.
- Transport patients and medications throughout the facility.
- Process written medical staff orders and communicate urgent needs to providers.
- Maintain unit supplies and equipment levels.
- Report changes in a patient's condition to the assigned nurse.
- Help orient new staff members.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited registered nursing program.
- Completion of at least one clinical semester.
- A valid CNA license through the MD Board of Nursing.
- American Heart Association HealthCare Provider BLS certification.
- Successful completion of the first year of a clinical nursing program is preferred.
