About the role#
As a Loan Origination & Loan Servicing Intern with the Live Oak Express team, you will gain hands-on exposure to banking operations, lending processes, and customer support. You will work alongside experienced professionals to help deliver a consistent experience for customers from the initial application through the servicing lifecycle. This role is based at our headquarters in Wilmington, North Carolina, and requires on-site attendance.
What you'll do#
- Assist with loan application intake, document collection, and file preparation.
- Support loan servicing tasks, including payment processing, account maintenance, and responding to customer requests.
- Review documents for accuracy and completeness while maintaining organized records.
- Monitor loan pipelines and servicing queues to ensure timely follow-up and resolution.
- Conduct research to support operational and portfolio management initiatives.
- Communicate with internal team members to resolve operational questions and customer needs.
- Assist with data entry, reporting, process documentation, and operational projects.
- Identify opportunities to improve team processes and contribute ideas for efficiency.
- Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive customer information.
- Uphold regulatory standards, including BSA, AML, CIP, and OFAC.
- Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Banking, Management, Communications, or a related field.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn new concepts.
- Commitment to professionalism, integrity, and customer service.
- Interest in banking, lending, financial services, or business operations.
- Experience with data, reporting, process improvement, or customer service environments is preferred.
- Exposure to financial statements, accounting principles, or credit analysis through coursework or prior experience is a plus.
Location & details#
- Location: Wilmington, NC (On-site)
- Term: Winter 2027 (Starting January 2027)
- Commitment: Part-time, averaging 10 hours per week with the possibility for extension into the summer with increased hours.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship.
