About the role#
This internship offers the chance to work with the architecture and engineering teams at Live Oak Bank. You will help bridge the gap between technical ideation and rollout. Your work will support internal teams like lenders, analysts, and operations staff by building and integrating tools that improve their daily processes. You will be paired with an experienced mentor throughout the program.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with engineers and business stakeholders to identify technical needs and translate them into actionable plans.
- Build and deliver proofs of concept for new integrations using AI coding tools.
- Develop features for internal tools and write integrations between internal systems and third-party vendors.
- Read and navigate existing codebases to maintain and improve current systems.
- Document your designs and present your work to stakeholders.
- Maintain regulatory awareness regarding BSA, AML, CIP, and OFAC standards.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a sophomore, junior, or senior in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, or C#.
- Experience with coding environments like VS Code and version control systems like Git, GitHub, or GitLab.
- Familiarity with API communication, including REST and JSON.
- Ability to read code written by others and comfort working through ambiguity.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Preferred experience includes building and deploying applications, exposure to cloud platforms like AWS or Azure, and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines or automated testing.
- Experience with AI coding tools like Claude Code or Cursor is a plus.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship located in Wilmington, North Carolina.
- The program runs for 10 weeks during Summer 2027, from May 17 to July 23.
