About the role#
This is a PRN position for a Student Medical Lab Technician at Centerpoint Health in Winchester, Kentucky. You will work on-site as needed to support laboratory operations. This role is paid and intended for students currently enrolled in an MLT or MT program.
What you'll do#
- Perform phlebotomy procedures including venipuncture, capillary sticks, heel sticks, and blood culture collections.
- Accession specimens into the laboratory information system, label them, and distribute them for testing.
- Perform quality control and non-interpretive testing, such as dipstick urines.
- Load specimens on instruments for automated CBC, chemistry, and coagulation analyses.
- Conduct waived testing for rapid kits like HCG, Strep A, and Influenza.
- Prepare and send specimens to outside laboratories.
- Maintain the collection area and manage inventory.
- Register patients and process them for testing using customer service skills.
- Handle telephone inquiries and file reports or requisitions.
- Support API Proficiency Testing and Joint Commission accreditation standards while following billing compliance regulations.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in the final semester of an MLT or MT program.
- Completion of at least one clinical rotation in an accredited MLT or MT program.
- A valid BLS certification.
- Willingness to complete additional site-specific training.
