    About the role#

    The Fair Housing & Community Development Project works to fight housing discrimination and promote equal housing opportunities. This fellowship focuses on combatting exclusionary zoning and residential displacement. We aim to ensure Black people and other people of color have the same opportunities for freedom and mobility in housing choice as their white counterparts. This is a two-year term position from 2027 to 2029.

    What you'll do#

    • Support impact litigation designed to combat policies that perpetuate segregation.
    • Engage in advocacy related to housing justice and civil rights.
    • Work on co-counseled litigation with prominent law firms.
    • Assist with case investigation, discovery, negotiations, amicus briefs, appeals, and trial practice.
    • Provide legal services to community-based organizations.
    • Conduct legislative and public policy advocacy, as well as public education on civil rights matters.

    What you'll need#

    • A JD degree or an anticipated JD by May 2026.
    • A strong commitment to civil rights and racial justice.
    • Prior experience working with or ties to Black communities or communities of color.
    • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
    • Effective written and oral communication skills for both legal and non-legal settings.
    • Ability to work cooperatively with staff, clients, and community organizations.

    • Location: Washington, DC.
    • Work Modality: On-site.
    • Employment Type: Full-time.
    • Compensation: This is a paid position with an expected salary of $76,000. It is an externally funded fellowship, meaning employment is contingent upon securing outside funding. If outside funding is lower than our salary scale, the Lawyers' Committee will provide the difference.
