About the role#
The Digital Justice Initiative focuses on the intersection of racial justice, technology, and privacy. This fellowship explores how exploitative data practices, discriminatory algorithms, and online hate affect communities of color. The role offers the chance to work on surveillance pricing or generative AI. You will focus on how surveillance pricing creates data privacy risks and how generative AI tools may perpetuate discrimination. This is a full-time, paid position based in Washington, DC, starting in the summer of 2027.
What you'll do#
- Research facts regarding specific technologies or industry practices.
- Build cases that challenge discriminatory practices.
- Engage with scholars, practitioners, community members, and organizations to shape advocacy.
- Participate in the implementation of legal strategies developed during your term.
- Conduct non-litigation work, including public education on civil rights issues.
What you'll need#
- A JD or an anticipated JD degree by May 2026.
- A strong, demonstrated commitment to racial justice and civil rights.
- Previous experience working with or ties to low-income communities of color.
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively with staff, clients, and community organizations.
- A background in computer science or technology is preferred but not required.
