About the role#
The Nurse Extern position is part of the Nursing Transition to Practice Program. This role allows nursing students to perform clinical duties under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. You will gain hands-on experience while supporting patient care and recovery efforts. This is a full-time, paid position.
What you'll do#
- Perform patient assessments and collect clinical data.
- Monitor patient status and report changes to your supervising RN.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living and mobility.
- Obtain specimens and perform point-of-care testing.
- Collaborate with the care team to identify patient needs and implement care plans.
- Provide patient education and document care in the electronic health record.
- Maintain a safe environment and follow all infection prevention policies.
- Participate in professional development workshops and career planning activities.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Proof of enrollment in an accredited nursing school program.
- A current nursing school skills checklist on file with the hospital.
- Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
- Ability to lift 50-70 pounds and assist in a combined lift of up to 300 pounds.
- Ability to walk 3 miles per shift.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
