About the role#
The Nursing Transition to Practice Program (TPP) externship provides nursing students with hands-on clinical experience. You will perform skilled clinical duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse while progressing through your nursing school curriculum. This role is designed to support your development as you gain experience in a hospital environment.
What you'll do#
- Perform patient assessments and collect clinical data.
- Monitor patient status and report changes to your supervising RN.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living and mobility.
- Obtain specimens and perform point-of-care testing.
- Collaborate with the care team to develop and implement care plans.
- Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record.
- Participate in professional development workshops and career planning activities.
- Follow infection prevention practices and safety policies.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Proof of active enrollment in an accredited RN nursing program.
- Maintenance of a nursing school skills checklist on file with the hospital.
- Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Ability to lift 50-70 pounds and assist in a combined lift of up to 300 pounds.
- Ability to walk 3 miles per shift and stand, sit, or bend for 3-5 hours daily.
- Capability to care for patients with infectious diseases.
