About the role#
The Student Nurse Intern works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to protect and promote health, prevent injury, and alleviate suffering. You will partner with the nursing team to provide holistic care and advocate for patients and their families. This is a part-time, paid position based in Visalia, California.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with patients, families, and health care providers to formulate plans of care.
- Perform basic bedside care and selected nursing procedures under the supervision of an RN.
- Answer patient call lights within two minutes.
- Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Help patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, ambulation, and oral care.
- Collect and record vital signs, height, weight, and intake and output data.
- Document care provided in the electronic medical record.
- Label and deliver specimens.
- Report any changes or variances in a patient's condition to licensed staff.
- Assist with emergency care, including crash cart checks and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Provide post-mortem care and assist with transporting the body to the morgue.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited RN program with completion of the 3rd semester for ASN students, or the 4th semester for BSN students.
- Current BLS certification.
- Participation in an approved Work Study Program affiliated with your nursing school, or current employment at Kaweah Health while enrolled in a qualifying nursing program.
- Ability to maintain a validated Skills Checklist at all times.
- Current CA Certified Nursing Assistant certification is preferred.
