About the role#
This is a year-round, part-time student position supporting our robotics and AI engineering teams. You will work alongside full-time staff to build automation solutions for John Deere products. This role requires on-site attendance at our Ames or Urbandale locations.
What you'll do#
- Design, develop, and optimize robotics, perception, and AI technologies.
- Write production-quality software and algorithms for real-time edge-compute platforms.
- Research and evaluate computer vision, machine learning, and deep learning algorithms.
- Develop and train multi-modal AI models using camera imagery, sensor data, and machine telemetry.
- Create synthetic data generation and simulation workflows to improve model performance.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate perception capabilities into our platforms.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or Mathematics.
- A graduation date of May 2027 or later.
- Strong programming skills in Python or C++.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Understanding of neural networks, machine learning fundamentals, and model development workflows.
- Ability to work 16-20 hours weekly during the academic year and 30-40 hours weekly during the summer.
- A cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
