About the role#
The Adaptive Bike Program Intern supports daily recreation sessions for adults aged 18 and older with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This seasonal position focuses on building rapport with participants, ensuring they reach their personal goals, and maintaining an engaging program environment. The supervisor for this internship holds a certification that can be applied toward school requirements.
What you'll do#
- Co-facilitate multiple daily adaptive bike sessions alongside the program coordinator and volunteers.
- Provide group and individual support, supervision, and instruction to participants.
- Assist individuals in acclimating to adaptive bicycles to ensure their success and safety.
- Conduct participant assessments and evaluations through organized record-keeping.
- Document the needs, desires, and goals of participants to support person-centered outcomes.
- Organize program supplies and materials to ensure proper maintenance and longevity.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a college or university degree program in Therapeutic Recreation or a closely related field.
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual, developmental, or physical disabilities.
- A valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of auto insurance.
- Ability to provide high-quality client service and maintain a professional, cooperative attitude.
- Current CPR certification.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including bending, kneeling, stooping, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Experience in adaptive sports or recreational programs is considered a plus.
Location & details#
- Term: Summer 2026 (May through September).
- Modality: On-site at the Parker Fieldhouse in Parker, CO, with occasional requirements at the Denver, CO office.
- Note: This is an unpaid internship that requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
