About the role#
As a Data Scientist intern at Intact, you will join a team of digital and technical experts. You will work on projects that bridge the gap between data and business outcomes. This role offers the chance to apply your technical skills to real-world problems while working alongside experienced leaders.
What you'll do#
- Translate complex, multi-source datasets into clear insights and recommendations.
- Build production-quality analytical and machine learning code using Python.
- Use modern libraries and best practices, such as version control and testing, to ensure code quality.
- Contribute to applied research and development to advance AI-enabled products.
- Prototype, experiment, and validate new approaches to solve business problems.
- Evaluate various methods including machine learning, deep learning, NLP, computer vision, and geospatial analytics.
- Work hands-on with diverse data types, including geomatics, telematics, time-series, text, and images.
- Connect data patterns to operational and strategic business decisions.
- Communicate findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders through narratives and visualizations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Availability to work full-time (35 hours per week) during the Winter 2027 term.
- Status as an active student who will return to school in Summer or Fall 2027.
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada.
- Strong analytical abilities, curiosity, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and a self-reliant mindset.
- Adaptability and a commitment to continuous learning.
- Previous experience in data science, AI, or machine learning is considered an asset.
