About the role#
This internship offers an opportunity to join the R&D team at the Bedford Park Idea Lab for the summer of 2027. You will support research projects focused on nutritive sweeteners. Your work involves refreshing food and beverage formulations to demonstrate ingredient functionality, gathering sweetener characterization data, and evaluating sensory characteristics. You will gain experience in food category trends and may present findings to customers or at trade shows.
What you'll do#
- Operate analytical and food laboratory equipment safely.
- Maintain a clean work environment following GMP guidelines.
- Research prior art, technology, and market trends to incorporate findings into formulations.
- Perform laboratory experiments including sensory analysis.
- Analyze data, interpret results, and provide recommendations to the project team.
- Document data in databases or presentation formats.
- Present research findings and future project recommendations to management.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Food Science or a related field.
- Completion of at least two years of undergraduate coursework.
- Prior laboratory experience.
- Ability to work safely in a laboratory setting.
- Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong technical communication skills for reports and presentations.
- Willingness to learn new database formats.
- Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
- Basic food formulation experience is a plus.
