About the role#
IKO North America is hiring an Engineering & Safety Intern for our facility in Sumas, Washington. This is a paid, part-time position designed to provide hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment. You will work directly with Process Engineers and HSE professionals to support plant safety and operational improvement initiatives. This role is open to local candidates only.
What you'll do#
- Support the plant's 5S continuous improvement program through audits and documentation.
- Develop and maintain Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Safe Work Instructions (SWIs) for new and existing equipment.
- Conduct plant walkthroughs to identify safety, process, and operational improvement opportunities.
- Assist with equipment labeling projects, including safety, maintenance, and process identification systems.
- Support P&ID reviews and updates to ensure plant documentation remains accurate.
- Collect, organize, and analyze data to support engineering and safety projects.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, and HSE teams on special projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Process, or Environmental Engineering, or Occupational Health & Safety.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Comfort working within a manufacturing environment.
- Attention to detail is required.
- Experience with engineering drawings, P&IDs, Lean Manufacturing, or 5S principles is an asset.
