About the role#
As an AI Engineer Intern, you will join our research and development team to work on real-world AI challenges. You will collaborate with researchers, machine learning engineers, and data scientists to design and implement advanced models. This 10-week, full-time internship offers hands-on technical mentorship and the chance to apply theoretical knowledge to high-impact projects.
What you'll do#
- Support the end-to-end AI product development process, including data acquisition, preprocessing, model design, training, optimization, deployment, and evaluation.
- Design, develop, and train advanced machine learning models to address complex challenges in areas like natural language processing and generative AI.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis and advanced feature engineering on large-scale datasets to uncover insights and improve model performance.
- Develop high-quality, production-ready code in languages such as Python, Java, C++, R, and JavaScript.
- Participate in system design discussions, code reviews, and testing to ensure software quality.
- Research and prototype new AI and machine learning methodologies.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to refine project requirements and align on objectives.
What you'll need#
- A completed bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field.
- A minimum of 9 credit hours of completed graduate-level courses in a related technical field.
- A strong foundation in core computer science concepts, including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis.
- Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language, with a strong preference for Python.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Scikit-learn.
- Demonstrated experience working with large-scale datasets and data preprocessing.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Experience with version control systems like Git is a plus.
- You must be a U.S. citizen, reside in the U.S., and be authorized to work in the U.S. All work must be performed in the U.S.
Location & details#
- This internship is based in Reston, Virginia.
- The role is hybrid, requiring a minimum of two days per week in the office.
- The position is full-time, running for 10 weeks from June through August 2027.
- Compensation is $32 per hour.
