About the role#
The AI Center of Excellence is looking for a Software Developer Intern to join our team in Markham. You will work on designing, building, and testing AI applications and services. This role involves using the IBM watsonx platform and pretrained models like Granite to create secure, scalable solutions on IBM Cloud. You will work alongside technical account managers, architects, and designers to deliver technical projects.
What you'll do#
- Design, develop, and test AI-focused applications and services.
- Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code.
- Follow security best practices to meet industry standards.
- Participate in agile and scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning and daily stand-ups.
- Communicate project progress, technical decisions, and challenges to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI components into larger solutions.
- Monitor emerging trends in generative AI and IBM Cloud services.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Computer Science or Computer Engineering program.
- Experience as a full stack developer with a focus on AI.
- Proficiency in backend technologies like Node.js, Python, or Java.
- Familiarity with databases such as Cassandra or PostgreSQL.
- Experience with web technologies including HTTP, REST, JSON, HTML, Ajax, and JavaScript.
- Knowledge of AI and ML frameworks like PyTorch, Hugging Face, or the OpenAI API.
- Understanding of LLM prompt engineering and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) techniques.
- Experience with Git version control and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Experience with IBM watsonx and IBM Cloud Infrastructure is an asset.
- Familiarity with model deployment and fine-tuning for Granite, Mistral, or Llama 3.
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and micro-services architecture.
- Experience with messaging brokers like RabbitMQ or Kafka.
- Knowledge of operating systems like Red Hat or Ubuntu.
- Experience with build tools like Maven or Gradle and automated testing frameworks like JUnit, Selenium, or Puppeteer.

- Duration: 8 months, starting May 3, 2027.
- Terms: Summer 2027 and Fall 2027.
- Employment: Full-time internship.
