About the role#
IBM is looking for an intern to join our OneIT team in Rochester. This role focuses on enterprise IT systems management, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and Network Reliability Engineering (NRE). You will work with experienced professionals to support infrastructure operations, contribute to automation efforts, and improve service performance.
What you'll do#
- Maintain and support enterprise IT systems, including servers and cloud environments.
- Monitor system performance to identify reliability issues.
- Write scripts to automate routine administrative tasks.
- Participate in incident response and post-incident analysis.
- Document system configurations, procedures, and reliability metrics.
- Collaborate with teams on infrastructure and service delivery.
- Configure and maintain network devices like routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Troubleshoot connectivity issues and support day-to-day network operations.
- Perform network analysis and report on performance data.
- Assist with network upgrades and deployments.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of operating systems such as Linux, Unix, Windows, z/OS, or zVM.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals and IP protocols.
- Familiarity with scripting languages like Python or Bash.
- Experience with version control systems like Git and CI/CD concepts.
- Exposure to cloud platforms including IBM Cloud, AWS, or Azure.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Wireshark, SolarWinds, Grafana, or Prometheus.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Interest in SRE and NRE principles, including automation, observability, and fault tolerance.
