About the role#
This internship focuses on the integration of high-performance computing (HPC) systems and quantum processors. You will join a multidisciplinary team to build software that orchestrates workflows across these two distinct compute backends. The work involves creating resource management systems and interfaces that enable hybrid computing environments.
What you'll do#
- Design and implement workflow orchestration software and libraries for hybrid quantum-HPC systems.
- Develop APIs for resource management, scheduling, and workload coordination in distributed systems.
- Build interfaces between HPC job schedulers and quantum runtimes.
- Create tools using Python, Rust, and C to manage data movement, interoperability, and runtime monitoring.
- Collaborate with system architects, HPC engineers, and quantum software teams to align workflows with performance goals.
- Participate in open-source development processes like testing, documentation, and design reviews.
- Contribute to internal engineering practices including CI/CD and performance instrumentation.
What you'll need#
- Proficiency in Python.
- Experience with at least one systems programming language such as C, C++, or Rust.
- Hands-on experience with HPC software like OpenMP, MPI, or GPU programming.
- Familiarity with resource managers such as Slurm, PBS, or Grid Engine.
- Experience with quantum computing frontends and ecosystems like Qiskit, OpenQASM, or CUDA-Q.
- Ability to translate user requirements into implemented software and manage post-release maintenance.
- Experience with modern software engineering practices.
- A collaborative mindset to work with research organizations, clients, and vendors.
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Physics.
Location & details#
- Location: Yorktown Heights, New York, United States.
- Modality: On-site.
