About the role#
IBM Research is looking for a graduate student to join the quantum hardware team in Yorktown Heights. You will work on electrical and mechanical studies aimed at improving the reliability and scaling of quantum systems. This is a full-time, paid internship for the Summer 2027 term.
What you'll do#
- Conduct research on quantum hardware to support system reliability and scaling efforts.
- Perform electrical and mechanical studies related to quantum system architecture.
- Communicate your research progress through regular updates.
- Present weekly findings to senior colleagues and fellow interns.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a graduate student in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- Expertise in cryogenics, experimental quantum computing, or adjacent technical areas.
- Experience with superconducting materials or qubits.
- Proficiency in quantitative electromagnetic simulation.
- Knowledge of methods to compensate for CTE mismatch under 300 deg C excursions.
- Experience with precision assembly.
- A sharp mind, a positive attitude, and good hands for lab work.
