About the role#
IBM Quantum is looking for engineering students to help build large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computers. You will work across software, firmware, FPGA development, embedded systems, and control electronics. You will assist in the design of logic units and embedded software for next-generation quantum systems.
What you'll do#
- Develop, implement, and debug FPGA logic for quantum control and measurement systems.
- Integrate FPGA, embedded software, and hardware components into larger quantum systems.
- Build software and automation tools for data collection, analysis, and lab instrumentation control.
- Debug embedded systems, ASICs, and low-level hardware-software interactions.
- Support qubit experiments, calibration routines, and system performance evaluations.
- Collaborate with physics, theory, hardware, PCB, ASIC, and deployment teams.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- Experience designing or implementing digital logic on FPGAs using Verilog, SystemVerilog, or VHDL.
- Proficiency with Python, Jupyter Notebooks, Git, Linux, and command-line environments.
- Experience with embedded systems, microcontrollers, and laboratory equipment.
- Familiarity with FPGA development tools like Xilinx Vivado or Intel Quartus.
- Experience using oscilloscopes, VNAs, spectrum analyzers, and related test equipment.
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience in at least one of these areas: FPGA architecture, system integration, PCB design, signal processing, cryogenic test environments, or quantum computing concepts.
Location & details#
- Location: Yorktown Heights, New York, United States.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Modality: On-site.
- This is a paid, full-time internship.
