About the role#
This internship supports the operations and execution of internal projects within the IBM Research organization. You will gain hands-on experience in project management and business operations while working with cross-functional teams. We look for individuals who can bring structure to complex projects, communicate with diverse stakeholders, and turn ambiguous assignments into actionable work.
What you'll do#
- Support the planning, coordination, and execution of internal projects and operational initiatives.
- Develop and maintain project plans, timelines, action-item trackers, and status reports.
- Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas and materials, document decisions, and track follow-up actions.
- Work with cross-functional stakeholders to gather information, identify dependencies, and keep projects on track.
- Assist with process improvement initiatives to make research operations more efficient.
- Collect, organize, and analyze information to support operational and project-related decisions.
- Create presentations, dashboards, reports, and other materials for project teams and leadership.
- Help document business processes, workflows, and standard operating procedures.
- Support communications and change-management activities for internal initiatives.
- Take on additional operational assignments based on organizational priorities.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Business, Operations, Project Management, Engineering, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects or priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze information, identify issues, and develop practical solutions.
- Curiosity about research, technology, and how organizations operate.
- Previous experience with project coordination or operations through internships, projects, leadership, or extracurriculars.
- Experience creating project plans, presentations, dashboards, or process documentation.
- Interest in research, science, engineering, or technology organizations.
- Familiarity with project management tools, Agile, Lean, or data analysis is a plus.
