About the role#
This is a 16-week Co-Op position for undergraduate students to gain practical experience on real projects. You will join our design teams to create intuitive and accessible enterprise software experiences. You will work alongside designers, researchers, developers, and product managers to turn ideas into prototypes and shape products used by customers worldwide.
What you'll do#
- Create wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes.
- Contribute to UI components, icons, and layouts that follow the Carbon Design System.
- Help document reusable design components and interaction patterns.
- Collaborate with UX researchers to gather insights and validate your designs.
- Apply accessibility standards and design system guidelines to your work.
- Participate in design critiques, ideation sessions, and Design Thinking workshops.
- Present your design concepts and rationale to cross-functional stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program with plans to return to school after the co-op.
- A portfolio that shows design thinking, UI/UX fundamentals, and visual design skills.
- Experience with design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Illustrator, or Photoshop.
- Understanding of user-centered design, accessibility, and responsive design.
- Familiarity with collaborative tools like FigJam, Miro, or Mural.
- Exposure to HTML/CSS or front-end development.
- Experience with motion design tools like After Effects or Lottie.
- Interest in design systems or metrics including engagement and retention.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Enthusiasm for learning and openness to feedback.
Location & details#
- Location: Durham, North Carolina.
- Term: Winter 2027 (January 19 to May 7).
- Work Modality: Hybrid.
- Commitment: Full-time (40 hours per week) for 16 weeks.
- Eligibility: You must be available to work full-time between December 2027 and August 2028 upon graduation. This role is paid and does not offer sponsorship.
