About the role#
This is a research internship focused on AI-native distributed systems. You will join the IBM Research team to work on the next generation of computing technologies. The role involves the full industrial research lifecycle, from formulating novel ideas to building prototypes and publishing results in scientific venues.
What you'll do#
- Design and optimize software platforms for building, deploying, and managing LLMs and agents.
- Develop frameworks and infrastructure to support the end-to-end AI lifecycle.
- Build and prototype networking solutions for AI infrastructure, including RDMA over Ethernet.
- Work on high-performance distributed inference for LLMs.
- Evaluate system performance, scalability, and resiliency at scale.
- Define principles and methodologies for AI-native software development.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing an MS or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Python, Go, C++, or Rust.
- Experience with containerization tools like Docker or Kubernetes.
- Background in AI and machine learning, specifically deep learning, LLMs, or agentic patterns.
- Knowledge of distributed systems design and implementation.
- Understanding of cloud or data center networking, Software-Defined Networking, or Linux networking.
- Experience with AI platforms and frameworks.
