About the role#
IBM is looking for an AI/ML Engineer for a 16-week co-op position within the AI/ML Center of Excellence. You will work with cross-functional teams to implement machine learning and Large Language Model (LLM) capabilities across the IBM Automation product portfolio. This is a paid, full-time role based in San Jose.
What you'll do#
- Manage data collection and processing pipelines for LLM training and evaluation.
- Integrate LLM technologies into new and existing product lines.
- Establish and promote best practices for AI/ML feature implementation.
- Collaborate with product teams to design and deploy AI solutions.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, with plans to return to school after the co-op.
- Availability to work 40 hours per week for 16 weeks during the Winter 2027 term.
- Ability to join IBM full-time between December 2027 and August 2028.
- Knowledge of NLP, transformer architectures, and MLOps practices.
- Experience with data processing pipelines and large datasets.
- Software development experience through coursework or projects, including familiarity with data structures, algorithms, and debugging.
- Exposure to front-end or back-end technologies, Git, and version control.
- Interest in cloud computing, containers, and modern deployment practices.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with cloud services, REST APIs, databases, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile methods is preferred.
