WGAL News Intern - 2026 Fall

About the role#

WGAL-TV offers paid, on-site internships within the News department for the Fall 2026 term. Interns gain hands-on experience across various functions, including the assignment desk, TV news production, digital news, sports, and weather. This program is designed to provide exposure to professional broadcasting operations through shadowing and practical tasks. Internships typically consist of 16 hours per week, scheduled based on mutual availability and academic requirements.

What you'll do#

• Assist team members in gathering news and information, including handling communications with reporters, sources, and the public.
• Practice writing and formatting scripts for broadcast.
• Research and write content for digital platforms, including the website, app, and social media.
• Support field work and news gathering operations alongside photographers and logistics teams.
• Analyze weather charts and models, prepare forecasts, and produce weather graphics for those in the meteorology track.
• Pitch story ideas and research statistics for the sports department.

What you'll need#

• Enrollment in a relevant academic program such as Communications, Journalism, or Media Studies.
• For Weather department internships, enrollment in a meteorology or closely related curriculum is required.
• Strong interest in news production and journalism.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Good communication skills.
• For sports-focused roles, a well-versed knowledge of local and national sports scenes and the ability to discuss current sports topics.
• Availability for specified days and hours during the fall term.
