About the role#
WGAL offers paid internships within the News department for the Fall 2026 term. Interns gain hands-on experience across multiple areas, including news production, sports, and meteorology. The program is designed to provide practical exposure to broadcast and digital news operations through shadowing and direct participation in daily tasks.
What you'll do#
- Assist team members with gathering news, research, and information from various sources.
- Practice writing and formatting scripts for broadcast.
- Help research and write content for digital platforms, including the WGAL website and app.
- Support field work and news gathering operations.
- Analyze weather charts and models, prepare forecasts, and produce graphics for the weather department.
- Pitch story ideas and research statistics for the sports department.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a relevant academic program such as Communications, Journalism, or Media Studies.
- For weather internships, enrollment in a meteorology or closely related curriculum is required.
- Strong interest in news production and journalism.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Good communication skills.
- Availability to work approximately 16 hours per week, based on mutual scheduling.
