WGAL News Intern - 2026 Fall

About the role#

WGAL-TV offers paid, on-site internships for the Fall 2026 term. Interns spend 10-12 weeks gaining practical experience across the News, Sports, and Weather departments. These positions typically consist of 16 hours per week, scheduled based on mutual availability and academic requirements.

What you'll do#

Interns assist with news gathering, research, and content production. Responsibilities vary by department:

• Assignment Desk: Support news gathering by placing and taking calls from reporters, government agencies, sources, and the public.
• TV News Production: Practice script writing and formatting for broadcast and shadow reporters or anchors in the field.
• Digital News Production: Research and write content for the WGAL app, website, and social media platforms, with potential opportunities to assist in photo and video production.
• Sports: Write scripts for daily sportscasts, research player and team statistics, and pitch story ideas.
• Weather: Analyze weather charts and models, prepare forecasts, produce graphics, and assist meteorologists with data gathering and forecast delivery.

What you'll need#

Applicants should be pursuing studies in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, or a meteorology-related curriculum for Weather department roles. Candidates must provide a cover letter that includes:

• Department preference (News Producing, Reporting, Photography, Sports, or Meteorology).
• Available start and end dates.
• Days and hours available to intern.
• A brief statement of objectives and strongest areas of interest.
• Writing samples, reels, or other relevant work attachments.
