Intern (Fall)

About the role#

As a Newsroom Intern at KCRA/KQCA TV, you will gain hands-on experience in how a television station functions and the role it plays within the community. Over the course of 10 to 12 weeks, you will shadow and work across several departments, including the Assignment Desk, TV News Production, Digital News Production, Sports, and Weather.

What you'll do#

• Assist team members in gathering news and information from reporters, sources, and the public.
• Practice writing and formatting scripts for broadcast and daily sportscasts.
• Research and write content for digital platforms, including the website and app.
• Monitor national sports feeds for breaking news and log recorded sports events.
• Analyze weather charts and models to prepare daily forecasts and produce graphics.
• Support field work, including shadowing reporters or anchors on location.
• Assist with social media efforts and email communication.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a degree program, preferably in Journalism, Communications, or Media Studies.
• Strong writing skills and an interest in broadcast script production.
• Ability to gather news and information through effective communication.
• Comfort with data analysis and interest in delivering weather forecasts.
• Experience or interest in digital content and video production.
• Interest in all aspects of news production and a collaborative mindset.
