Intern (Fall)

About the role#

KCRA/KQCA TV, a Hearst Television station in Sacramento, is offering a 10 to 12-week internship for the Fall 2026 term. This program provides an opportunity to understand how a television station functions, the various roles within the industry, and the station's impact on the community. Interns will gain experience across several departments, including the assignment desk, TV news production, digital news, sports, and weather.

What you'll do#

• Assist with news gathering, including taking calls from reporters, sources, and the public.
• Practice writing and formatting scripts for broadcast.
• Research and write content for the KCRA app, KCRA.com, and social media platforms.
• Monitor national sports feeds for breaking news, log sports events, and research team statistics.
• Analyze weather charts and models to assist meteorologists with forecasts and graphics.
• Shadow reporters and photographers in the field during live reports and location shoots.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a degree program related to Journalism, Communications, or Media Studies.
• Ability to assist in gathering news and information.
• Familiarity with writing and formatting scripts for broadcast.
• Capability to analyze weather charts and models.
• Experience with researching and writing content for digital platforms.
• Willingness to monitor national sports feeds and accounts for breaking news.
