About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience in medical office operations within a mental health setting. It is designed for individuals who want to start a career in healthcare and do not have prior medical office experience. The program lasts 3 to 6 months and requires a total of 600 hours to earn a Certificate of Completion. You will work under the guidance of a supervisor who provides weekly feedback and training.
What you'll do#
- Handle patient scheduling and professional phone communications.
- Manage patient check-in and check-out procedures.
- Oversee patient flow and the waiting area.
- Perform front desk tasks such as faxing, copying, and filing.
- Learn to use the MEDENT Electronic Health Record system.
- Gain exposure to medical terminology and the basics of psychiatric services.
- Receive an introduction to insurance billing and coding.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient privacy.
What you'll need#
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- You must be a high school graduate.
- No prior healthcare or office experience is required.
- You must be able to commit to a consistent schedule of at least 20 hours per week.
- You must pass a basic screening, including a background check and drug test.
- You should be motivated to gain experience for your career development.
