About the role#
This internship provides hands-on training for individuals looking to start a career in healthcare. You will gain experience in medical office operations within a mental health setting. The program lasts 3 to 6 months and requires a total of 600 hours to receive a Certificate of Completion. You will work under supervision with a structured training checklist and weekly progress check-ins.
What you'll do#
- Manage front desk duties including faxing, copying, and filing.
- Handle patient check-in and check-out procedures.
- Schedule appointments and manage patient flow in the waiting area.
- Practice professional phone etiquette.
- Use the MEDENT system for Electronic Health Record (EHR) tasks.
- Learn general medical terminology and the basics of psychiatric services.
- Gain an introduction to insurance billing and coding.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance, patient privacy, and confidentiality.
What you'll need#
- You must be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate.
- No prior healthcare or office experience is required.
- You must be able to commit to a consistent schedule of at least 20 hours per week, with 10-hour shifts.
- You must pass a basic screening, including a background check and drug testing.
- A motivation to gain experience for professional development in the healthcare field.
