About the role#
This internship provides hands-on training for individuals starting a career in healthcare. You will work in a mental health outpatient clinic to learn medical office operations. This is a voluntary, unpaid position that requires a commitment of 600 total hours. You will receive a certificate of completion and a reference letter upon finishing the program.
What you'll do#
- Manage front desk duties including faxing, copying, and filing.
- Handle patient check-in and check-out procedures.
- Schedule appointments and use professional phone etiquette.
- Assist with Electronic Health Record (EHR) tasks.
- Oversee patient flow and the waiting area.
- Maintain patient privacy and HIPAA compliance.
- Learn medical terminology and the basics of psychiatric services.
- Gain an introduction to insurance billing and coding.
What you'll need#
- You are at least 18 years old and a high school graduate.
- No prior healthcare or office experience is required.
- You can commit to a consistent schedule of at least 20 hours per week.
- You are willing to pass a background check and drug screening.
- You agree to follow a drug-free workplace policy.
- You are motivated to gain experience for your career development.
