About the role#
Harmony United Psychiatric Care offers a hands-on internship program for individuals interested in starting a career in healthcare. This program provides foundational training in medical office operations within a mental health setting. Participants receive mentorship and practical experience, concluding with a Certificate of Completion that details the skills learned and hours served. This is a voluntary, unpaid position that requires a commitment of 600 total hours.
What you'll do#
Under supervision, you will learn and perform the following tasks:
- Manage patient check-in and check-out procedures.
- Handle professional phone etiquette and patient scheduling.
- Use the MEDENT system for Electronic Health Record (EHR) tasks.
- Oversee patient flow and the waiting area.
- Complete front desk duties such as faxing, copying, and filing.
- Gain exposure to medical terminology, insurance billing, and coding.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient privacy.
- Learn the basics of provided psychiatric services.
What you'll need#
- You must be 18 years of age or older.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- No prior healthcare or office experience is necessary.
- You must be able to maintain a consistent schedule of at least 20 hours per week.
- You must pass a background check and drug screening.
- A strong motivation to gain experience for career development in the healthcare field.
